Australia Awards in Myanmar is a  prestigious international scholarship program offered by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change in their own countries and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.

Priority areas of study for Australia Awards Myanmar are linked to the priorities of the Australian aid program and those of the Government of Myanmar, which are to :

  • enhance human development by improving the quality of education.
  • promote peace and stability.
  • address the needs of conflict and disaster affected people.
  • promote inclusive economic growth and government management.

Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic readiness and, most importantly, their potential to assume leadership roles upon their return to Myanmar and make significant impact on development challenges. Australia Awards in Myanmar offers scholarships in the following fields of study: education; human resource development; trade and private sector development; social inclusion and human rights; regional stability; and environment and natural resources.

Australia Awards contribute to achieving development objectives across a range of sectors and are a feature of nearly all Australian bilateral aid programs. DFAT works closely with its partners in developing countries to ensure that Australia Awards support the development priorities of each country
